Memo on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception: This is not a Holyday of Obligation this Year. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is normally a holyday of obligation. However, if 8 December is the Second Sunday of Advent, the Solemnity is transferred to Monday 9 December, but is then no longer a Holyday of Obligation. This is what happens this year. It happened most recently in 2013 and 2002 and will happen again in 2024. In next year’s Liturgical Calendar for Ireland 2020, on page 32, Monday 9 December, you can see the date of the Solemnity is without +, an indication of Sundays and Holydays of Obligation. With thanks to Fr Paddy Jones.
Mass in St Brigid’s for the Feast day is on Monday 9th December at 10 AM
