  Trinity Sunday – 26th May 2013

Now that the Easter Season has officially ended with the Feast of Pentecost last Sunday – we have begun ‘Ordinary Time’. And as you might expect, ‘ordinary time’ itself begins on a bit of a high with today’s Feast of ‘The Trinity’. We hope to begin the Summer Season ourselves next month on a bit of a high as well (in about three weeks time) on June 16th. This is Fathers’ Day for this year: In this, the year of the gathering and the year of Faith, we hope to give expression to faith building on nature. What is more natural than people gathering to celebrate Love. What is more natural than a parents love for a child or visa/ versa.  If this day turns out a success, we’ll think of a comparable celebration for Mothers’ Day, next whenever.

On June the 16th we have a number of things in mind to mark the day.  First off it’s going to be based on the fact that many families will be in, or coming back to, their father’s house on that day.  That of course fits very nicely into our Christian appreciation of Our Father’s house.  We were thinking that on the day we could have  some community time together prior to the 4.30 Mass in Our Fathers’ house in Cabinteely.

This time to begin at 2pm till 4pm with “A Taste of Cabinteely” representing the extraordinary number of eating
establishments we have for a village our size.  A festive atmosphere will be maintained with Music, Circus & Balloon
artists and face painters.  Then after the 4h30 Mass we are offering Strawberries & Cream to go with the selling
off of the paintings that so many people are working on – even as I type!!  – I hope! – See Newsletter

In short – believing, as we mentioned earlier, that grace builds on nature, and the witness we try to give is to the truth of today’s Feast of The Trinity as being real and relevant; this is how we see it

  • -God as Father – which addresses that aspect of our being that allows us be drawn by what is tantalizingly beyond us.
  • God as Son, – which addresses that aspect of our being that allows us appreciate the reality that is so very real and  close to us.
  • God as Spirit – which addresses that aspect of our being that enables us to deepen our reflective moments and to profit from them more fully.

In other words to enjoy the gift of Faith!

Yes, ordinary people are who we are and Christian people are who we try to be! By opening ourselves to the touch of the extraordinary, in the midst of what is very ordinary, we hope to be better people. What is more natural and ordinary than for kindred spirits to be able to rejoice and celebrate together – especially believing as we do that the bonds of Love and friendship come from God.

So get your ‘I Phones’ out, or your diary or biro, your pencil and paper, your calendar or whatever else will have you remember Sunday, 16th June here in St Brigid’s.  AO’N
